Iran to Speed Up Trade with Turkey

TEHRAN (FNA)- Tehran is ready to increase trade exchanges with Ankara, Head of Iran Customs Administration Mahdi Mir Ashrafi said on Sunday.

Mir Ashrafi made the remarks on Sunday via joint videoconference with Turkey’s Deputy Minister of Customs and Trade Riza Tuna Turagay.

He expressed readiness for holding border meeting on Bazargan-Gorbolagh border and implementing the pilot plan of the technical final project for exchanging customs information.  

The official added that Iran’s customs also suggested pursuit of the possibility of electronic inquiry of the certificate of origin from the relevant Turkish officials.

Mir Ashrafi noted that Iran Customs Administration is ready to sign MoU on implementing the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) and green corridor.

He informed of increasing the capacity of accepting trucks at Gorbolagh customs and Esendere borders in Turkey.

“The Turkish side has started accepting 120 people per day in the Esendere border since August 14,” Mir Ashrafi noted.

He added that 110 trucks move toward Turkey per day and 50 ones move toward Iran.

In relevant remarks on Sunday, Iran’s Customs Administration (IRICA) Spokesman Rouhollah Latifi said that upon the agreement of Iraqi officials, Mehran border increased working days from two to four days a week.

Latifi added that Mehran border will be open the whole week except Fridays.

Chazabeh border will also be active for exports all week long.

Chazabeh was the last joint border with Iraq that has been reopened after six-month lockdown.
